Previous Exhibitions:
Arcane Horizon Charity Art Gala - Nov 2023 and Nov 2024
Organized by Jacobus van Houdt, the Arcane Horizon Charity Art Gala was a fundraiser in benefit of Arcane Horizon Community, a Winnipeg based non-profit in support of persons with intellectual disabilities.
The event brought together local artists with pieces for auction, with at least half the proceeds of each piece being donated to Arcane Horizon Community. The event was also inclusive of the members of Arcane, with several members being mentored by Art Beat, who also had work for sale in the show. The events have also featured music by the Luminous String Quartet, and have featured food by Master Chef Canada Season 3 finalist Jeremy Senaris, as well as from various local restaurants in the subsequent year.
Between both the Arcane Horizon Charity Art Galas in 2023 and 2024, over $20,000 has been raised for persons living with intellectual disabilities, supported by Arcane.
Winnipeg Fine Art Fair- April 2024
The first annual Winnipeg Fine Art Fair, featuring over 65 artists in a juried showcase
Konstkuppen 400/031 Exhibition - June 2023, Gothenburg, Sweden.
400/031 is an art exhibition exhibiting 400 art depictions of Gothenburg over four weekends in June. It was part of the celebration of the city's 400th anniversary.
Unison - June 2023, cre8ery
The second solo show by Jacobus van Houdt. The show was in part a fundraiser, with a portion of the proceeds of each piece sold donated to Arcane Horizon Community. In total, $1080 was donated.
Show statement:
Unison is an exhibit that explores the connection between mankind in relation to one another, as well as nature and the greater whole of the Universe. Using various mediums such as acrylic, ink, mixed media, and watercolour, the artist imagines a world where mankind lives in utopia with their natural surroundings–a world where technology and Mother Earth intertwine in synchronicity.
Unison is also an exhibit about self-discovery, as the artist explores his identity of being a first-generation Canadian of both Dutch and Filipino heritage. In doing so, he will further uncover his purpose in relation to the greater world around him while exploring the connections we all share as one humankind.
Transcendence, June 2021, cre8ery
The first solo show by Jacobus van Houdt at the cre8ery. The exhibition was also a fundraiser in which Jacobus donated half of his earnings to Arcane Horizon Community. In total, nearly $2500 was donated.
Show statement: Transcendence is a collection that details my personal catharsis. Art has always been my therapy—a means to overcome difficult life circumstances through the act of painting and sketching. Fantasy has always been a huge source of inspiration, being inspired by childhood movies such as The Neverending Story or The Chronicles of Narnia book series. Through mediums of acrylic, water colour, and ink I learned that I could create my own worlds as a means of escape. Fluid lines and bold colours envelope my pieces as my means of creating new realms.
Over time I discovered the art can be used as a vehicle for change. Half the proceeds sold in this show will go towards Arcane Horizon Community—an organization that assists persons with intellectual disabilities with community living support to help them lead their best lives. I have realized that art is not just a means to change my circumstance, but can also be used to benefit the lives of others, which is the essence of this show.
